The Hanen program

Jaden and I started a new class today--the Hanen program. Here is a quick overview of it:

(Scroll down to More Than Words: For Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder)
The classes are being held at the CARD (Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) office here in town and in addition to learning alot about how to help Jaden interact and communicate, I am excited to be able to meet other parents in the same situation. There are three parents who have daughters in this class, and that shows how common it is becoming to have little girls joining the numbers of those with Autism.
Jaden's new favorite thing is art/crafts. She loves to paint, and color with markers. She has learned all of her colors and she has learned to draw circles so they are her favorite. I need to watch her closely because she gets bored with paper and then uses the paintbrush on her arms and mouth. Some days I put her in the bathtub and watch the water turn several different colors as she settles down there. :o)
She is continuing to love singing and knows about 15 songs now. She can sing more easily than she can talk! When she is in the car, she asks, "Pretty song?"
She is doing so well in her Pre-K class. She has been so happy there, looking forward to going every day. She has been healthy enough to not miss one single day yet! Her teacher is incredible. Her aides are wonderful. I can rest easy knowing my girl is accepted and loved where she is.
I realized that I have not used this blog as I intended, due mainly to time constraints. I also struggle with and get frustrated with computer stuff and I need to ask my teenage girls to help me alot. They don't mind but they do wonder why I don't retain the things they teach me. :o)
I would like to put up some links to my favorite websites for learning about Autism and how to treat it. I would also like to learn how to put more photos here so you can enjoy seeing how God's Grace is growing. Soon!
