Autistic people have trouble with pronouns. I, you, me, he, she, etc.
So tonight I was pleasantly surprised when we were sitting at the table and I burped. (I wasn't surprised that I burped--I do that quite often but not as much as in the past.) After I burped, I teased Lance. I said, "Lance! Say 'excuse me'!"
Jaden was quick to jump in. She said, "NO, Mom! Lance didn't burp!"
I said, "Then who burped?"
She said, "YOU!" and giggled.
I realized as she said it, that she has actually been getting better and better at using pronouns. Everything she does is such a miracle. I wonder if I would have been as enthralled if she were the typcial child I asked for? I don't think I would have noticed so much--and thanked God so often. I KNOW I wouldn't have worked so hard! In all things there ARE divine spectacles. You just have to have your eyes--and your heart--wide open to see them.
