A bit better

Things are a bit better this past weekend. Jaden is happier and is showing signs of improvement physically. A funny: Jaden has photos of different foods on the door of our pantry in the kitchen. The photos are there to help her communicate. She just picks the photo off (it's held on with velcro) and brings it to us and 'asks' for whatever it is she wants. If we are out of a certain item, I put the photo up on the top part of the door, with a 'no' sign paper clipped over it. The 'no' sign is see-through plastic, so she can clearly see that we are out of that item and therefore can't have it. A few weeks ago, I was thinking about how well she was doing with the photos of the food (and also the toy chart we have in the living room) that I added a photo of her diaper and another one of a little person sitting on the potty. I have been talking with Jaden about using the potty for several months now, but talking is as far as we get. She is afraid to sit on it, and I don't have a big enough block of time to deal with it. Maybe summer break. :o) Ok--back to the photos--she just looks at the potty photos but never brings one to me. So today, she comes in and pulls off the photo of grapes. We were out of grapes, so I told her so and put the photo up on top with a 'no' sign. I noticed that there were photos of an orange and an apple, which we did have, so I encouraged her; "But look, Jaden! You can choose an orange or an apple instead!" and put those two at the bottom so she could choose. Instead of choosing the food, she picked the photo of the girl on the potty. I was excited for one second, thinking she was going to ask to go to the potty. Instead, she reached up as high as she could, trying to place the photo on top in the 'no' zone, and said clearly, "No potty." Little smarty, she is.
Reg just came by and read what I was writing and is trying to encourage me to start training her right away. I am thinking I need a block of time--off from school, appointments, and activities, to focus on this. He said that I could at least get some books from the library, put a reward box together and buy training pants. In other words, act slightly interested. ;o) Isn't it funny how you know what your spouse is *really* thinking after 20 years of marriage?
I told him ok. I really will. Get slightly interested. The next time I go to the library. And WalMart.

So glad to hear Jaden Grace is feeling better. Regarding the potty pic, our kids say the darnest things- without even saying a word!
Such a smarty. We are soooo blessed!
