Update on the low-oxalate diet

We have been faithful since last Tuesday, when we learned that Jaden's oxalates are very high, to stick to only low oxalate foods. She has had to give up chocolate, cocoa, spinach, nuts, peanut butter, sweet potatoes, soy yogurt and a few others I can't think of right now. This has been very difficult, since these were Jaden's favorite foods. Since removing them, Jaden had five days of discomfort. She walked around saying "I'm hungry" all day long, even if she had just eaten. She also had several meltdowns throughout the day and was generally unhappy. We took her to her cousins birthday party on Saturday and the time there reminded me of Thanksgiving weekend, 2005, when I determined she would never be able to spend holidays with extended family again due to how unhappy she was. It was so heartbreaking to me. She appeared like a child with a fever--watery eyes, tired-looking and quiet--only not hot! It was strange. Yesterday, she turned a corner--she stopped saying she was hungry and actually ate a few healthy foods. She even asked to eat baby food winter squash (I use baby food to mix her supplements in) and I gave the jar to her. She ate three-fourths of it! She had only two screaming/crying episodes. Today she had only one and bugged me to play all afternoon! \o/
I can see the diet is working for her!
